flashing lights

in honor of player's graduation yesterday, i thought i would post one last thing about his basketball career. player decided not to keep playing basketball after his college career ended in the NCAA Division II tournament. personally, i'm slightly disappointed. he got an offer to try out for some european teams and i think that would've been really fun. i'll admit its slightly selfish because i would love to fly to europe to watch him play, but i can also understand that you spend so much time doing something, you just need a break. i remember being like that after key club in high school. heck, i even quit a job because i was sick of it. i went back and i'm not sad i left, so i won't dwell.

anyway, here is a link to an interview player gave on the radio. he sounds so intelligent!

in the interview, player talks about how he wants to get on the golf course. he's spending the summer working at hawktree and that should be fun for him. i had a pipe dream that he would spend the summer with me working at my company so he could spend some time in a big city and get some different experience. i can see how he wants to stay in bismarck, and thats totally fine, but i told him to make sure he gets a lot of experience working at the golf course - management, balancing books, social networking, general networking, systems, etc.

he also talks about playing golf against my other brother and dad. player and dad golfed against each other last weekend and i think it was a fight to the end. one won in points and one won in... whatever that other golf thing is. i'll keep you posted over the summer how they do...

finally, he talks about winning high school basketball in 2006. i've been relistening to this while i write this and every time he talks about the two of them (homie and player) i got teary eyed - i'm just so proud and happy that my brothers are each others' biggest fans! love you, guys.

under the table and dreaming

i'm tired. still. it's been a few days now that i have been so busy, i havent been able to sleep a full 8 hours a night. hopefully tonight will be different. i will be in a hotel room in bismarck, north dakota and no matter how late we stay up tonight celebrating player's graduation, i will be sleeping in tomorrow. i'm on a plane heading to bismarck for my brother's graduation from college - congrats player! i'm using airline miles for this trip, so i didn't get upgraded. the plane is pretty empty, anyway, so that doesnt really bother me. i have an exit row all to myself. i took a little nap and then figured i'd take advantage of the internet. woo hoo.

i should be on the ground by 10:24 IF all goes as scheduled. APPARENTLY there is a winter storm watch in bismarck! wth!! i actually dont really mind because i hadn't put my winter jacket away yet, so i put it on this morning. i just want to say "hey, mother nature, may starts tomorrow so get your act together." i'm just sayin.

player is picking me up after i land. we're going to attempt to find him a proper suit. its my graduation gift to him. i got my other brother one when he graduated, as well. it'll just be a bit tougher because player is tall and not very big. so big and tall suits won't work. i hope we can find something in nodak. oh and i have these AWESOME ties for both my brothers. i hope they dont get ruined in my suitcase. i should take a picture of them. they're so pretty.

i presume we'll do some sort of celebrating tonight, but its difficult because none of our family is in bismarck. we'll have to have a party for player some other time. tomorrow i think the boys were planning on golfing, but maybe its not nice weather so not sure that will happen... i have monday off, which is nice, but i'm gonna have to do some work tomorrow - i have 6 emails i MUST follow up on before monday. then i will feel better about taking the day off. monday night we're having my brother and sister-in-law over with grandma for my 30th birthday!! love it. we'll have dinner and then play whist. oh and i'm meeting a friend for coffee on monday. thats always fun. for many years i didn't really have any friends in fargo, so its cool that i do now. i fly back to BOS on tuesday morning and head straight to work.

anyway, i'm gonna go do more surfing. here is a picture for my brother summing up all i hope he does with his new deplowma.

drem big, player!

a long, long time ago... i can still remember

on a flight from msp to bos. sad flight. was home for the weekend in a trip that should not have happened (long story, but basically ALL the signs were that i shouldn't go. hmm... maybe i shouldn't have...) and the outcome was not as we would've liked. it started out promisingly enough... thursday was an easy day at work, i hopped on a flight from bos to msp (a flight which got UNdelayed, btw, NOT COOL - could've missed it!). no upgrade, but it was fine. landed in snowy minneapolis and saw a very distinctive group of 20-something "men" in warm up suits. very clearly a baksetball team. i asked where they were from and, sure enough, they were from colorado. competition. i was in town to watch my brother, player, play in the ncaa division 2 regional tournament. seeing the enemy made it really exciting.

thursday night, i stayed at my cousins house (thanks, t!) and had dinner with her and her husband. we didnt stay up late and i headed to bed. the next day, i actually had to work, which was fine. i was home alone and just sat at my computer all day. parents picked me up and we drove to mankato - about 1.5 hrs outside of the twin cities. we were staying in a HORRIBLE hotel. actually, HORRIBLE might be exaggerating. it could've been worse. but it was not comfortable. as soon as other people (my other brother and sister in law and family friend hassie) were there and fineish with it, i loosened up a bit. but i still didn't like it.

anyway, none of that really matters. what matters is the game saturday night. i probably can't explain what happened in the game as well as actual sports writers, so i'll post those articles here. in case you haven't figured it out, we didn't win. i dont know why i'm saying "we." i didn't play. the team was not victorious. its sad. i actually felt worse about it on sunday than i did saturday night. i can't imagine what it must be like to be on the team and not win. or, even more so, to be a kid on the team who didn't play up to his potential. (not my brother, as you will see, my brother was a superstar and practically carried the team saturday night - but one man cannot do it alone.) do those kids feel badly? do other players blame them? what does the coach think? this is why i don't play sports. its hard for me to rely on other people. if i lose in a sport (which, to be honest, is another reason why i dont play sports - ha!), then i know its MY fault and i can't blame others. but, its very easy to blame others for saturday night. these are the things that i wonder about, but at the same time.... there are hundreds of games a DAY where people go home not victorious. i guess people get over it and move on. it is only a game, afterall. but its disappointing just the same. anyway, here is how it went down:

U-MARY HOOPS: Marauders lose in Central Region quarterfinal

MANKATO, Minn. - When Eric Erdmann came to the University of Mary, the men's basketball team was new to Division II and struggling to get wins.

But four years later, the senior was the Marauders' top scorer in a national-tournament game.

"You saw Eric go to work tonight," Mary coach Randall Herbst said.

U-Mary's first trip to the NCAA Division II tournament ended Saturday with a 78-73 loss to fifth-seeded Metro State in the quarterfinals of the Central Region tournament. A season that featured a 16-game winning streak and a challenge for a Northern Sun championship ended with consecutive losses.

"It's tough to take," Herbst said. "I tip my hat to Metro. They have a nice basketball team. Our team fought and battled for 40 minutes, but we lost it on a couple possessions and made some turnovers. We had our opportunities, but we didn't finish."

The teams went hard at each other in the first half, with U-Mary (23-6) going up eight midway through the first half before Metro State rallied, hitting three straight 3-pointers to go ahead 35-30 at the five-minute mark.

Reggie Evans had 15 points in the first half to pace the Roadrunners, while Erdmann had 12 points and seven rebounds in the opening half, scoring nine of Mary's last 11 points.

"When I first got to Mary, the head coach put me right into the starting lineup as a freshman," Erdmann said. "That kind of surprised me. It's been a learning experience for all of us. We struggled my first three years, but I think we've really turned it around. Hopefully, that will continue."

Metro State shot 60.7 percent in the first half, while U-Mary was at 40.6 percent. The Marauders stayed close by making 9 of 11 free throws, while Metro State was 1 of 6 at the line.

The teams went back and forth for much of the second half, but Metro State started to pull away in the final four minutes. A.J. Flournoy had seven points in the final run, and Metro State held on with 9 of 10 free throws.

Erdmann finished with 26 points and nine rebounds, and Anthony Moody, the region's player of the year, scored 16, though he made only 7 of 23 shots.

"The whole year, there's been different defense against me," Moody said. "I had opportunities to finish, and I couldn't find the basket."

Evans led Metro State with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Flournoy scored 14.

Metro State advances to the region semifinals against Minnesota State at 7:30 p.m. today.

"These guys are a special group," Herbst said. "When I took this job, the program wasn't as good, and people talked about us like we were an easy win. Once we got everybody together, everything started rolling."

METRO STATE (78): Glenn Miller 1-1 3-4 5, Jonathan Morse 6-11 0-4 12, Brandon Jefferson 3-7 0-0 9, A.J. Flournoy 4-10 5-6 9, Reggie Evans 10-19 4-4 25, Quaran Johnson 3-5 2-2 9, Shakir Johnson 2-4 0-0 4, Paul Brotherson 0-0 0-0 0. Totals 29-57 14-20 78.

U-MARY (73): Eric Erdmann 9-16 5-5 26, Damon Smith 3-3 1-2 7, Anthony Moody 7-23 1-4 16, Jordan Wilhelm 0-4 2-2 2, Cameron Lee 0-3 2-2 2, Jalen Jaspers 4-4 1-2 10, Baley Johnson 0-0 0-0 0, Alex Dorr 4-7 2-2 10. Totals 27-60 14-19 73.

Halftime: MSC 39, U-M 38.

3-pointers: MSC 6 (Jefferson 3, Flournoy 1, Evans 1, Q. Johnson 1), U-M 5 (Erdmann 3, Moody 1, Jaspers 1). Rebounds: MSC 36 (Evans 12), U-M 31 (Erdmann 9). Fouls: MSC 17, U-M 16. Fouled out: None. Assists: MSC 16 (Flournoy 9), U-M 12 (Moody 6). Turnovers: MSC 8, U-M 8. Steals: MSC 6 (Jefferson 2, Flournoy 2), U-M 5 (Erdmann 3). Blocked shots: MSC 4 (S. Johnson 3), U-M 1 (Smith 1).

[editors note: here is the credit and link to the article. ironically, i saw the team we lost to at the airport this morning. they looked REALLY sad. at first i thought it was fatigue, but i realize now it was disappointment.]

this is another article i was going to paste in, but now realize it basically says the same thing. check it out if you want.

[yesterday in the car, i heard american pie by don mclean and i thought "all of these lyrics would make awesome rambling titles!" so, expect more in the next few days/weeks...]

paper television

morning! happy friday. when getting ready for work this morning, i stopped my roommate in the hall "which earrings should i wear?" and had him tell me which pair of hoops i should wear - i had one in each ear. he told me the one that i agreed with - it looked better with my outfit, but i wear it more often, so i kinda wanted to wear the other pair. but i agreed with him. i also asked him, when he was going downstairs, to bring up my indian leftovers from last night. "is there anything else i can do for you, your highness?" he said sarcastically. i laughed. "just bring it up!" so we left for the bus, and i was happy that i remembered my indian leftovers so i could have it for breakfast at work. we get to the bus and just as its pulling up, he says "oh, so you went with the other earrings?" i gasped and put my hands to my ears. i was STILL wearing two different earrings! silly me. i was going to leave them in, but took them out at the last minute. now my outfit is ruined. RUINED! actually, maybe i'll pop out to check the store across the street and see if they have any... yeah. good call.

anyway, its friday and thats great. i forgot to write yesterday. oops. busy weekend coming up. lots to do - i'll get into it later. for now, two good newses: 1) homie got a new job! woo hoo! and 2) player was named to the all-conference team. woo hoo! here is the article:

He also directs an offense that is committing the fewest turnovers in the nation for the second straight year.

He has eclipsed the 20 point barrier 14 times this season and hit for 30 or more four times, including a season-high 42 at St. Cloud State.
The Appleton, Wis., native was a first team pick and newcomer of the year in 2010 and earned two all-region second team honors.

he's a pirate

i'm starting to get sick. or maybe, rather, i am sick. head cold. stuffed nose. pounding in my head. ugh. i took some 12-hr medicine at 7am. hate to think how i would feel without that. anyway, because of my sickness, i dont have anything really to say. so i'll post some videos of my brothers baseketball for your enjoyment. these are from last weekend's games.

and then this link here will bring you to a conference update which is kind of interesting, as well. his team has been doing really well and i have some articles that i'll post in the next few days. also, i booked a ticket to head to minneapolis in march to (hopefully) see them play...

my name is

its friday night as i write this. am home watching brothers game. i like this. wish i were drinking, but i'm not for all of february. its a low scoring game and its currently tied. not loving that. ok, the other team just scored. darn.

anyway, i'm watching the game online. its a home game, which is nice because then i can listen to the sound from the video and its our own sportscasters. its not as fun to watch the opponents guys comment on the game. anyway, i'm not sure who monitors the video, but its not usually very good camera work. sometimes the game moves to the other side of the court and no one moves the camera. not cool. and that happened and i was just imagining my little brother, player, when we used to go watch homie's games... player would take the video camera and go behind the stands with all the other video cameras and film homie's game. he was homie's biggest fan. and now homie is his. it brought a tear to my eye because they were both so cute! and they're such great brothers. i'd really like for them to start moving all those games from vhs to dvd... hint, hint, hint. i can still imagine player sitting behind with all the adults filming the game. and i know we have some videos where you can hear player cheering for homie. so fun.

so i'm writing tonight because tomorrow is going to be a busy day. i have to run some errands, then i am going to see my little sister at noon. we may or may not go skating (depends on if she gets skates) and we'll probably spend at least 3-4 hrs together. i have a ton of work to do at work and i want to organize some of the papers in my room. i should probably also think about doing my taxes. i need to be on a major budget because i am quickly burning through my cash. need to rein in the expenses. stop eating out so much. stop buying cds. etc. you get the drill.

oh, and here is another article about my brothers team, this time from the bismarck tribune.

Men continue to roll

Northern Sun coaches always lament that playing on the road is the toughest thing to do. The U-Mary men haven't let the long road trips take away their will to win. U-Mary closed the month of January with eight straight wins, including six straight on the road.

The Marauders (11-4 NSIC, 15-4 overall) are tied with Augustana for second place in the conference. As the wins pile up, U-Mary has gained recognition by being ranked eighth in the region.

"We knew going into Christmas break that we had some challenges in front of us," U-Mary coach Randall Herbst said. "We face adversity with the travel itself and then we have the games. We have played well on the road. We have been able to take care of some business. It wasn't an easy month to get through."

The Marauders' top three stars - Anthony Moody, Eric Erdmann and Jordan Wilhelm - have started receiving help on the offensive end. Jalen Jaspers scored a career-high 19 points on Saturday against Duluth. Post Damon Smith finished in double digits in scoring both nights last weekend. Smith netted 12 in a win against Bemidji State and 10 against Duluth.

"Anytime we can come out with that type of ammunition," Herbst said, "it will make it tough for our opponents. People have been keying in on Moody and Erdmann the whole time. We are tough for our opponent when our other guys start putting the ball in the hole."

Starting guard Cameron Lee, who has been slowed by a sprained ankle, didn't see time in the second half against Duluth. Herbst said the senior is still day-to-day.

and thats about all i've got. what are you up to this weekend?

[eminem sings this song. did you really not know that?]

life is just a tire swing

if all goes as expected, i am currently on a flight from the west coast back to boston. i should land around 5pm and then i'll head home, unpack (maybe), make dinner, crack open a bottle of wine, and then settle in for some good basketball. and, in honor of a nice night at home watching player play, here are some videos of his team:

what are your plans this fine friday night?

another saturday night

another saturday night and i ain't got nobody. i got some money 'cause i just got paid. how i wish i had someone to talk to. in an awful way.

yep. here we go again. this is me right now: saturday night. glass of red wine. brothers game on. video sucks so i'm listening. can't really listen well because i dont get it. sausage, brussel sprouts and pesto bread. they just took my brother out of the game but he has no fouls. wth.

had a fabulous day so far. not as quick a worker as i would've liked, but pleased with what i did get done. saw no strings attached at 11. liked it a lot. def related to the female protagonist even though i dont like the actress. went directly to work. was there from 1-7:30. walked home. went to cvs and didn't get anything. came home. and now this. i have soo much to do for work, i am going to be up all night. tomorrow i have to clean my room and meet peeps for brunch and maybe relax if i get all my work done tonight. we'll see. i would love that. mon i head to sac. busy week for me. ugh.

ugh. stupid turnover. but we got it back.

my brother homie and i are watching the game online. err... listening. the "watching" part is totally stupid. pennatlantic is showing the game super far behind. if showing at all.

homie called that we have to drink whenever player scores. i was like "wait! can we drink in between, too?" and he replied "duh. what if he has an off night??" so... thats going on.

one of the main articles on the ncaa website was about our big win last weekend against the #10 team. (the game where i fell asleep) this is a link for your enjoyment. eek. players' first foul.

ok, so its half time. we're ahead by 9. that's decent. i'd prefer more. but yeah. so i'm going to post this because i'm boring lately and don't have much to talk about. what do you have to say??

live-blogging the umary game - part 2

oops. game started again. almost missed it. i'm tired. and halftime was really quick. foul #2 on player. not good. they can happen fast. 33-49. 18:37 left in the game.

player just had the ball and passed it to willy. willy passed it to someone else. shot clock is 5. player got an easy 2. signature fadeaway. why are people less interested now? and why hasn't homie responded?

someone else just scored. i missed it. 36-51. 17:28 left. so i never know what way to set up for when the ball is coming in. how do you know if you should be in one line or spread out? and do you have to freeze like simon says or can you be moving when the whistle blows?

yellow just keeps missing shots. i hope that stays the same. knock on head. 36-53. player just spun but was unable to bank it in.

anotehter thing i dont get is how men are able to remember games so well. i thik this guy just head-butted my brother but there was no call. so yeah. i feel like player has played hundreds of games in his career and i bet he could say "oh yeah, thats when...." and i'm like "hmmm... what color were the jerseys?" player just shot again. and scooooored. woo hoo. not ajump ball. 36-55. 15:36 min left. long timeout. the commercial on the radio is with my 8th grade government teacher.

oh wow! for once, the radio is ahead of the internt. by at least a minute. crazy. oh wait. no, they're always ahead. i have to mute it.

36-59. biggest lead continues to grow.

39-59. i'm tired.

39-61. clutch shot for the other team. 41-61.

when you're shooting free-throws. can you stand there for as long as you want? would it be in your best interest to stand there and catch your breath? or are you just hoping the game will be over soon?

timeout for mary which is good bcs the dude was TOTALLY STUCK. double-teamed.

player just had an AWESOME block. and then he got the ball in a different way. thats awesome. good game. 13:14 min left. only the 2nd turnover. limiting minnesota state to the fewest possessions possible. umary was one of the best teams last year in turnovers. (jas in, not a lot)

43-62 with ... some time left. its a replay so i can't tell. 12:50. umary without a center. moody just shot an awesome three. i think player had the assist. is there over and back in college basketball? 43-65. like where you can't cross the midcenter line and then go back? something like that...

the just recapped and player has 14 pts. woo hoo.

same score.

oops. 47-68. 10:37 left.

something happened that i dont understand. coach looked upset.

ok. i forgot to type. they just replayed a ... something under the basket where a few players fell. i still couldn't tell what happened.

we have a few ppl almost in foul trouble, so thats troubling. get it? trouble is troubling.

why is being the pt guard and the 2nd leading rebounder so surprising? theres something about that that i dont know. apparently the yellow team isn't interested in playing defense. doesnt bother mer! 50-71 with 9:09 left. we just shot an in-and-out. those suck. what i like about basketball is its technically all angles and velocity and whatnot. mathematics. i dont know the math, but its there.

55-74. im almsto falling asleep. 5min left in the game. it would really suck if we lost this game at this point. its 11pm. my bedtime. 16-pt lead at the half. if marauders winthis game tonight, they'll have won 7 of the last 8 games and the one game they lost, they lost by 1 pt. i missed something - the crowd just went wild. oh wow! they're cheering "ov-er ra-ted!" ouch. i would feel bad if someone were chanting that about me.

2:34 left. 59-82. mary is bringing in 2nd string. ist hat what they're called?

oh wow. cam lee has a pretty bad twisted ankle. they just showed player - hes on teh bench because we're so far ahead. i wonder what happened to the other team tonight. we're probably also just underrated.

half a minute to go. the marauders will take down the #1 team in the conference.

69-84 is the final score. woo hoo. is player limping? i hope not. i would not be very happy about that. oh the coach went around and shook his own players hands. that was nice.

not quite as long this post. thats probably good. i just can't keep up. i feel like i'm grandma or something.

the funny thing about this broadcast is that you keep hearing the announcer or something. ok. i think it might be over. i just heard a guy say "are we gonna try and pump out the stats?" WHILE the stats are on teh screen being updated.

ok, well they just shut off the video and the espn radio isnt up, so i guess i'll shut 'er down. congrats player!

live-blogging the umary game - part 1

eric just scored the first point for his team! am watching player's game tonight and i've decided to "live blog" the game. its 18:21 left and i just decided this. i'm hoping it will help me follow the game better. i got home a little after 9.

crap. player just got his first foul. NOT GOOD. during chalk talk (which, yes, i watched), coach herbst said that is one of the keys to the game - making sure they don't get to the foul line because they score more free throws than most teams get to the line. and players been sitting on the bench a lot bcs of foul trouble. so thats not cool. the dude hit one free throw. oh. player just hit a fadeaway. i now know what they are. wait. he didn't make it. so it was an attempt at a fadeaway.

anyway, got home a little after 9. was at a friends birhtday. i only stayed for drinks because of this game. i'm glad that the woman's game ran long. it allowed me to watch the pre-game of this game. thats cool. oooo close up on player taking the ball out. #32. woo hoo. moody just scored. 32nd 3 pointer of the year.

the game is being broadcast on - hey! the score is wrong! oof dah. they had 6-2 when it should be 3-5. they fixed it. i'm paying attention. anwyay, the game is being broadcast on nbc in north dakota. i hope a lot of ppl are watching. my cousin amanda is having people at her house watching it outside of why-not minot. thats pretty cool. homie is at the game and i am really glad about that. crap! the game just froze right after player scored. and theyw ere talking about him. NTO PLEASED. i have to go fix this.

ugh. so annoying. i missed like 2 minutes of the game. i had to refresh. i'm watching the game on my work computer (a PC) and typing on my macbook. what was i saying? oh yes. homie is at the game (as are my parents, of course, who are always there) and @hassie is with him, too. i gave hassie a hug from afar. he appreciated it. so there is a commercial break so i hope i'll know when the game has restarted. the screen is black right now.

hmmm

hmmm

oh ok. its coming back. guys with blue body paint on. i can see them.

ok. game's back on. i had to open the window. its mad hot in here.

13:50 left in the first half and the score is 10-12 mary. is that how you say the games? ji mean scores. i've had a glass of wine. now 10-15 mary. for some reason, msu is shown first on the screen, so thats what i keep looking at. this is a pretty fast-paced game. player takes the ball out and he doesn't pause while he's out of bounds. ooo. replay. willy just hit a 3pointer. score is now 10-18. they called a timeout bcs mary is on a roll. they should've let them open up a bit more. player is #8 of all-time scorers at mary. he has scored over 1400 pts in his college career - congrats! that was awesome.

some dude in yellow (the other team - LAME color!) just FLEW through the air. white man can jump. sometimes the game is faster than i can type. and i'm not looking at the keys, so not really sure whats going on. (with the yping, that is). ooo. an almost travel during the last bit. the yellow team looks short but i think its just because their shorts are so long. i dont like it. player has the ball. 11 minutes left. willy just scored. if player throws to someone who throws to the person who passes - does player get an assist? he assisted the person who assisted the scorer. i think that should count as an assist. he's obviously sharing the ball. ooo. yellow team just threw the ball out. under the 11 min mark, idiot. the dude just said "under the 12-minute mark." another timeout. i can catch up.

so mary is in orange and blue. i was kind of not in love with their colors, but now they have grown on me. they look really sharp against a white shirt. and they didnt look bad against a gray sweatshirt that i used to own. my mother lost it in florida a few months ago so i no longer own it. i guess i shouldn't be upset since she probably bought it for me. ok, close up on some girl at the game. and some other people in the crowd. show my family!!

ok, can't tell you the time - its not on the screen. come on, nbc. ok, 10:48 left and the score is 14-21 mary. moody just had an awesome steal and then a foul. he's super quick. i bet i could guard him. i'm totally sure. he's from wisconsin by way of devils lake. he just scored. 14-22. i'll always put mary's score 2nd just so you know. yellow team keeps hitting the rim (and not going in). thats good for us. i bet that would suck to shoot a lot and not make them. thats why i dont play. player just scored! woo hoo! he's so cute. 6 points he has. something called a head-fake. not quite sure when he's going to shoot it the dudes on tv are saying. i always know when he's gonna shoot it. call it sibling intuition.

wow. this is long. people are going to be annoyed.

oo. mary missed. got a rebound and just made it! woo hoo. my computer can hardly keep up with my fast fingers. the good thing about this is that my hands are not free to lift wine glasses to my mouth. i'll probably actually be sober by the end of this game!

something about someone's versatility.. not really sure who they're talking about.

game is slowing down. we're only ahead by 10. i prefer 20+. oh, in case i didnt tell anyone - this is a big game. the yellow team is #1 in our conference and #10 in the nation. they're throwing the ball a lot. trying to take up time. wear our team down. set up plays. they just hit a three pointer. 19-26. i like the sound of shoes on a basketball court. i wonder what a basketball court is made of. the floor that is. not really interested in the brick and mortar. moody just stole and missed an assist. crappy. taking a break. mary is up again by 10. oh. eric was out. i missed that. when did he get benched? and why? to rest? how many fouls does he have. man, i suck at paying attention to this.

another commercial break. biggest lead for us has been 12 but is now 10. 19-29. yellow has the ball. some dde was open. an offensive foul. thats good since we were defense. da fence. nw tire replay. i want some arm warmers. mason guarding my brother. not sure who that is. i bet its the guy stalking my brother on the court.

oh wow. total air ball. maybe not because the shot clock restarted. 6:45 left in the game. this might be a 2-parter because its gettin loong.

player missed a fadeaway. is that one word?

hmm... an interesting story about some D1 players on the msu team for the first part of the year and they were "pushed out" the door... wonder what happened there!

yellow team gets a free throw. miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssss. crap. he made it. he wouldn't have if he had heard me. just made the 2nd as well.

holy crap! moody just had a great 3! that was really good. i'm not kidding when i say the score said 232. that would've been awesome. it is only 32. too bad. 21-32. player is the leading rebounder. i like that. especially since they practically didnt know what rebounding was last year. moody just hit another. 19 pts. 21-35.

lee is coming out with 2 fouls. who is going in?

willy just scored! 22-38. 4min left.

ummmmm. lots of stuff just happened. too fast. can't keep up.

dude! the dude just fouled my brother! he fell to the ground!!! NOT PLEASED. don't push my brother around.

a break. i need some wine.

phew. this is tough work! moody just scored again. 22-40 with 3:28 left in the first half. they just need to score 2 more pts and i'll fell slightly safer. then they should have a goal of being ahead by 30. i feel like this geam will come out fighting after the half. not liking that. just texting homie that i was live bloggina nd he said "this is awesome." i'm still nervous. they should get ahead a LOT.

25-40. thanks to free throws. player just got fouled again. the dude should've just let him shoot. might-should've been an offensive foul, but i dont mind that the other dude got it. 76% he makes it. player just missed a free throw. he normally gets those. 27-41. we haven't scored in a while. just missed another shot.

"[player] close to picking up his 2nd foul."

you know what i wonder about people who play sports? if they care about getting dirty. i think they probably don't. you get sweaty and sticky and you share a ball with people without washing the ball or your hands in between. i think there is a reason i dont play sports.

the yellow team is the highest scoring team in teh conference. says mary is playing well defensively. 27-43. i'm quite pleased player hasn't gotten a 2nd foul. he just got benched. to protect him? hmm... not sure how i feel about that. i guess he could have a break. someone should give him a quick shoulder massage. another point for us. 27-46. they're running the clock down.

de-fense. de-fense. de-fense. 3 seconds left and a foul. offensive put-back. obviously i have no idea what these things mean. i'm just retyping what the dudes on the internet tv are saying.

woo. just tried for a decent 3pointer. missed it. thats the end of the half. 30-46 at the half. decent, but still slightly nervous. can't hear the interview. just turned on jack on espn radio and its a commercial. interested to see what he says. oh! i see homie! and hassie! they were on tv. standing in the stands behind the coach who was being interviewed. i texted him to wave, but he didnt get it, i guess. crappy.

ok, just pulled up jack again. let's see what he says. wait. is this mankato or msu? oh. not moorhead state. hmm... ha ha. ok, they're talking about mary women, so i'm going to post this and will post part 2 later... who will win??????
oh, quickly... not sure how long it will be up, but if you click on this link - its a pic of player shooting and homie and hassie and mama bear are in the background!

blogging + bball + wine

oof dah. i just looked at my blog and realized its been days since i even thought about it. its friday night. 9:45. i left work about an hour ago. i know. its sad. and thats why i haven't thought about my blog in so long. super busy. i like it. but i wish i was more effective.

this should be a post about things i like. i like right now. i'm watching my brothers game online - actually watching. the stupid nsic doesn't have their system set up to watch on a mac, so i am watching on my work laptop. how lame is that?? stoopid. anyway, the bad team just shot a basket and missed. :) we are slightly ahead but now i am going to knock on my head so that i dont jinx them. its a TOUGH game. player got 2 fouls right away and was out most of the first half until two other people also got 2 fouls. he's in now and playing conservatively, which is good. under a minute to play. awesome. woo hoo. (a minute in the half, that is). 23 seconds now. mary leading by 4. less than 25 pts for each team in a half. not gonna get to 80 pts in this game.

anyway, was at work super late. talked to my friend in france for an hour, so that was nice. although i can find that we're distant. we don't talk as often and she's married now. and i'm slightly concerned because we're in similar industries so i can't talk about work as freely as i'd like. its interesting. some people have a best friend since they were 6 years old. i'm not one of those people. i wonder if that means anything. anyway, then i worked a lot to get caught up. this was a busy week - i was in ohio for half of it, sick one day, and then at work until almost 9pm last night, as well. i came home and had sushi, watched svu and then chatted with the roomie. off to bed and then repeat. long day at work today, watching the game and drinking wine. ching!

ok. i've not been paying attention to the game. how long is half time? it went by really quickly. and now my computer is frozen. crap. anyway, i'm drinking wine, watching the game. here is me. right now:
i'm not paying as much attention because player isn't playing. but homie tweeted a picture of the game and here it is:

player is 32, bending over. oh! he's back in! woo hoo. i should watch.

ok, last thing i'll write is actually something *i* didn't write... here is an article about player's game last weekend...

College basketball: Mary defeats MSUM men behind 27 points from Anthony Moody

Minnesota State Moorhead couldn’t contain lightning-quick guard Anthony Moody, and couldn’t find an offensive rhythm in the second half.

By: Eric Peterson, INFORUM

Minnesota State Moorhead couldn’t contain lightning-quick guard Anthony Moody, and couldn’t find an offensive rhythm in the second half.

That combination was too much for the Dragons to overcome Saturday at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.

Moody netted a game-high 27 points to lift the University of Mary to a 72-57 victory in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s basketball.

“He’s just a terrific player,” MSUM head coach Chad Walthall said of Moody. “It was just a tough matchup for anybody. He is extremely talented and he just gave us fits. He played great tonight. He was hard to guard.”

The Dragons (7-5, 4-4 NSIC) trailed by one point at halftime, but were unable to keep pace in the final 20 minutes. Mary (9-4, 5-4) held MSUM to 20 points in the second half on 25 percent shooting (7 of 28) from the floor.

The Dragons scored just four points, including one field goal, in the final seven minutes of the game.

“At times when the ball is not falling in and we are starting to force … then you just dig a bigger hole,” said Dragons guard Charlie Chapman, who finished with 13 points and three assists. “We just have to come and play for 40 minutes straight and give all our effort.”

The Dragons cut the Mary lead to 56-53 after Tarell Clark scored in a transition drive to the basket with 7 minutes, 18 seconds remaining in the second half. MSUM went cold from that point with Mary scoring 16 of the game’s final 20 points. Moody started that game-clinching surge with a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 6:50 remaining.

“You can’t stop Moody,” said Mary senior forward and former Fargo North standout Eric Erdmann, who finished with 15 points. “He is just too quick with the ball and too smart of a player. You try to stay off him and he hits a 3 and you try to get into him and he goes right by you. He’s a fun player to watch and I’m glad he’s playing on my team.”

Erdmann scored Mary’s final 11 points in the first half to help the Marauders take a 38-37 lead into halftime. The Dragons led by as many as eight points in the first half.

“We knew when we came in we had a challenge in front of us,” Erdmann said. “It’s a big win on the road.”

The Dragons host Northern State in a game scheduled for a 4 p.m. tipoff today at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.

“Sometimes lessons are hard,” Walthall said.

MARY (9-4, 5-4 NSIC): Moody 12-18 0-0 27, Wilhelm 2-7 0-0 5, Lee 2-4 0-2 5, Erdmann 6-12 0-0 15, Smith 2-4 1-2 5, M. Johnson 0-0 0-0 0, Condon 0-0 0-0 0, Jaspers 2-5 0-0 4, Belohlavek 0-1 0-0 0, Bakkum 0-0 0-0 0, B. Johnson 0-1 0-0 0, Dorr 4-5 1-1 9, Ulmer 1-1 0-0 2. Totals 31-58 2-5 72.

press play

last weekend was a big weekend for my little brother, player. he was named northern sun intercollegiate conference player of the week - you can read the full link here. he scored

there is an article on his school's site, as well. i'll paste the words here in case they take it down.

Erdmann Named NSIC Player of the Week

Eric Erdmann

Burnsville, MN - For the third time in his University of Mary playing career, Eric Erdmann is the Northern Sun Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward earned this week's award by the conference after leading the Marauders in scoring back to back nights as U-Mary split their NSIC opening weekend series.

Erdmann averaged 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in the two games.

The two-time All-NSIC performer opened the weekend with 25 points and eight rebounds in an 84-81 overtime win over St. Cloud State. He was 2-of-3 behind the arc, hit all five free throw attempts and added two steals.

The following night, Erdmann scored a season-high 28 points and added seven rebounds in a 70-67 loss to Concordia University-St. Paul. He also had four steals.

The 53 points Erdmann scored over the weekend pushes his career total to 1,294 in 91 games.

For the season, Erdmann is averaging 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Previously Erdmann won the award in Dec. 2007, after leading the Marauders to an upset of then-#8 St. Cloud State and January 2010.

here are highlights from the first game on friday night

they lost their second game on saturday night, BUT player scored 28 points. check out those highlights here:

AND THEN... to top it all off, the fargo forum ran an article on my littlest brother. sports writer eric peterson called my bro to chat and then wrote an article about him! i'm also pasting that article but know that i did not write it...

Peterson: Erdmann tearing up the NSIC at Mary

Eric Erdmann is healthier and that isn’t a good thing for the rest of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

By: Eric Peterson, INFORUM

Eric Erdmann is healthier and that isn’t a good thing for the rest of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The former Fargo North standout is coming off one of his best NSIC men’s basketball weekends with the University of Mary. Erdmann scored 25 points in an overtime win against

St. Cloud State on Friday and followed that with a season-high 28 points in a loss against Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday. That effort earned him league player of the week honors.

“You can just tell he is a senior out there,” Marauders head coach Randall Herbst said. “He has a lot of confidence in his game. He’s a tough matchup.”

Erdmann is two years removed from a medical redshirt season in which he played two games because of plantar fasciitis and a bad shoulder. While he rebounded with a strong campaign last winter (16.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game), helping the Marauders to an unexpected rise to the top half of the NSIC, he feels even stronger this year.

This past offseason he was able to work on improving his game instead of rehabbing injuries like he had to in the previous offseason.

“This is healthiest I’ve felt since my freshman year,” said Erdmann, who is averaging 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game through six contests. “No aches and pains with my shoulder and my feet. Last year, I had a problem with my Achilles so that kept me out of practices, too. ... This year, I was able to take the whole offseason to get better and I did.”

Herbst said the 6-foot-5 Erdmann is hard to guard because of his versatility. Put a taller defender on Erdmann and he can take his game to the perimeter and hit shots. Put a smaller and quicker defender on Erdmann and he can score in the paint.

“He is so skilled,” Herbst said.

Erdmann ranks No. 8 on Mary’s all-time scoring list with 1,294 points in 91 career games. He has helped the program turn the corner over his five years. In his first three years with the team, the Marauders won nine, eight and seven games. Last season, Mary won 15 games and finished fifth in the NSIC.

The Marauders (5-1, 1-1 NSIC) are halfway to double digits win through six games this season.

“Right now our program is on the way up,” Erdmann said. “We’ve got a lot of confidence right now. You always want to be part of that group that turns the program around.”

Herbst feels Erdmann has fed off the team success.

“I think the expectations that have been placed on the program have added a little jump in our step and he’s got it,” Herbst said.

Erdmann said the togetherness of this group has also helped him flourish this season. The Marauders return seven players from last season, including six seniors.

“We know the system and how to play with each other. Right now it’s team chemistry,” Erdmann said. “We know when people are going to cut and how people are going to get open.”

Erdmann along with lightning-quick senior point guard Anthony Moody has given the Marauders a potent 1-2 scoring punch. The NSIC newcomer of the year last season, Moody leads the team with 18.5 points per game.

“It doesn’t hurt him any that we have Anthony Moody,” Herbst said. “You can’t stop them both. Pick your poison.”

tweet it

i think my little brothers are fabulous. they're fun people and everyone should want to hang out with them (but i should get to decide who actually GETS to hang out with them). a few weekends ago, we had a fun twitter exchange and it really made me laugh, so i am pasting it here for you all.

first, a bit of background: i haven't twittered in a long time. hmm... i think thats all i have to say for background, and you probably could've figured that out anyway.

so to begin, my brother player twittered the following and then homie got into it and i had to jump in, as well.

Scarlett Johansson... I am single

@ you're not gay?

@ Contrary to popular belief, I am not gay.

@ my bad... I thought I heard something about you and @

@ I hope @ didn't tell you anything... It was suppose to be a secret.

Supposed! With a d!

And @ has awoken from her twitter slumber

@ has lost her tweeting abilities. You should have made that a reply to me. Now people just think you're saying random things

Danielle Erdmann
I can't let the erdys be so egregious with their twattery

@ yes I had to look up egregious

@ I had to ask my wife and she said "I don't think it's good"

@ that is correct. It is not good. "extraordinary in some bad way"

I am wearing a moustache. True story

@ twitpic! Twitpic! Twitpic!

and i was wearing a moustache, and here is the pic of it. its a long story but here is the short version: i went to a bar that would only let you in if you were wearing a moustache. so i wore a moustache.
i think i look good with it.

the other night, my friend bubby mentioned he doesn't really "get" twitter. so here is a video for him and ya'll to enjoy. it totally explains it not at all.

breaking up the girl

groan. i'm not looking forward to work today. bleh. i've kind of been put off by a few things lately and then yesterday was just annoying combined with the fact that someone stole my amazon package, i'm just not in a good mood.

i feel like turning in to a tiger and roaring at people to express my frustration. but i won't.

i wasn't really sure where this was going when i started it. and i have no real way to end it, so i'll post this video here which is pretty fun of player's first home game. player has a really good steal which lead to a layup and then a cool block towards the end. his teammates and coach talk about him and he's also interviewed at the end.

here's hoping for a better day. tonight i'd like to go shopping for an outfit i can wear to my holiday party this weekend and i also have to decorate the apartment with xmas stuff. the cleaning people come today and i forgot that i wanted the xmas stuff up so they could dust around and pick up any mess i make. just another thing to make me sigh.

sigh.

don't put yourself in the garbage

so its saturday night. in november. you know what that means... basketball!!! and not just any basketball, player basketball! so fun.

so my parents and younger brother, homie, headed to bismarck to watch player play. in case you can't guess by my excitement, we won. 76-69 (or something like that...) maybe 75. i guess we scored the first 6 points and then didn't score again until after they scored 12 (oops!). i say "i guess" because i missed the first part of the game chatting with a friend online who is in australia. we were video conferencing, so i couldnt do both. anyway, it was really fun to watch even if jack michaels wasn't there. :) AND, for the record, homie: i DID listen last week, but not to jack. i listened to the video, remember? we talked about that at the time...

the other day, umarysports posted a video interviewing a bunch of the transfer students. they talk about how great the senior leadership (hint: my brother is a senior) is. here's the video:

but really now that i think about it, you want the video that shows my brother talking. he's the tall white kid with blue shoes. oh wait. that's not very distinctive. he's the one with the same last name as me. :)

but really, before i go to bed, i thought i would leave a little present for my little brothers. i am sure they, and hopefully you, will find this hilarious (from gawker):

eat the rich

i was reading this article the other day, about this personal finance blogger being an eat-out-aholic and how it works for him, and i started thinking about myself. i, too, am an eat-out-aholic, but i'm not convinced its working for me. its expensive, can be unhealthy, AND i am a member of a farm! i get 10 pounds of veggies every week!! which i've already paid for. and a lot of it goes bad. part of it is that i don't know how to cook it. or cook in general. but i'm watching food network all the time, so i think eventually some of those things will start to rub off on me (here's hoping!). in my own defense, when i first moved here, i was still unpacking, etc. but that is no longer an excuse! aside from this current week (because i'm traveling for work), i'm going to try to go a few weeks without eating out. so that starts this weekend when i get back to boston. i'm going to go sat-thur without eating out (except when i have to for work reasons - business lunch or something). (thur i leave for europe, but will try to limit my eating out there, as well). so that's my new goal. i gave up candy and pop (which has been going great! except i did have soda when i was sick, which is ANOTHER reason why i shouldn't eat out - pretty sure the chinese food made me ill) and don't think i've had any candy. my little brother, player, is doing it, too. i wonder how he's doing. (hint, hint, tell me). and now: one week of not eating out.

so what will i miss? i'll miss chicken naan from mela.

and pizza. ooo. we should make our own homemade bbq chicken pizza with lots of veggies from the farmers market. good idea!

and jae's sushi. i'll miss that. i'll try to get my sushi fix this week while in sac.

i'd miss scallion pancakes, but i'm already over them since they made me ill.

what's your favorite food / place to get take out?

[song by aerosmith picked because am going to try to get rich by eating out less!]

chain gang

so congrats to my littlest little brother, player, for being named player of the week in his conference - the northern sun ic something. nsic. vs. ncis on cbs. nsic. check it out here under basketball player of the week or read the press release OR check it out on fargo's in-forum website.

BUT i actually wanted to write about my other little brother, homie. i mostly write about player being such a great basketballer, and that shouldn't mean that my other brother isnt. he just doesn't play much anymore (aside from the once weekly [fill in the blank with appropriate type of basketball game] game). BUT when he was in high school, homie was on the best basketball team in north dakota - they went undefeated, 25-0 their senior year. homie started his junior and senior years and their team was AWESOME. they were so fun to watch. here is a posting on youtube of my brothers team (at my alma mater, fargo north) vs. our cross-town rivals, fargo south. homie is #23.

this is from homie's junior year and they didn't win the game. BUT i am sure that homie will get to dazzling this weekends and pull up some clips from all the other times they walked over south... so... until then - here is to my two little brothers who have grown up to be such awesome big little brothers and to all of their basketball success - past and present!
